Rainbo Portrait Collection
These portraits were painted for the Rainbo Bread Company. As part of the United States Bicentennial Celebration in 1976, Rainbo had a series of portraits painted, each featuring one president and scene from his presidency. Rainbo used these portraits and the accompanying short biographies to create a series of presidential trading cards, which were then placed in loaves of bread. Children collecting the cards could write to Rainbo and receive a free map of the United States that doubled as a game board, allowing the children to use their trading cards to play a game where they ran for president.
