"Upcycled Coral Reef"
"Upcycled Coral Reef" was created using repurposed and second hand materials exclusively. Crochet and knit hats, scarves, mittens, and doilies were dyed and manipulated to become underwater flora and fauna for the reef, whose core is a large repurposed steel frame. Jelly fish made from doilies and repurposed yarn swim around the reef as well as seahorses and clown fish made from felt materials manufactured from plastic bottles. Airbrushed bed sheets create the seafloor, and the scuba divers are featured in suits from the beachwear boutique.
This exhibit won first place in teh 50th and France Art Crawl competition, March 2012. It went on to a successful solo show at the Textile Center, and finally found a permanent home at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN.
