Le Mont Saint-Michel on the border between Normandy and Brittany with a monastry and village within its protective walls.

Le Mont Saint-Michel with the monastry standing proud on the mount. Le Mont Saint Michel is situated on the border between Normandy and Brittany. There is a lovely village below the monastry and withing the protective walls. The islet is formed from granulite, a hard glassy, granitic-type rock. The ielet is approximately 3,00 feet in diameter and 262 feet at the summit. The nearby islet called Tombelaine is also granitic in nature. The area is very tidal with a rise of 50 feet during spring tides. The clacerous, muddy sand can be very dangerous due to quicksand.
