It's Been a Long, Long Time
A nostalgic treatment of this photograph of the Ottawa River in Aylmer near where I grew up.
Childhood was loaded with long afternoons in fields like this, filled with tall grass, milkweed, blackbirds, friends and laughter.
As a child of the 1960's, WWII seemed as if it had happened in a dim past out of reach of a child's understanding. Nonetheless, our parents had come through that war, deeply attached to the music of the 1940's. So, we grew up not only hearing the Beatles on the radio, but hearing all the hits of WWII in our homes.
In this photograph, I've conflated the childhood memories of playing in fields like this one, and the idea of revisiting sweet memories of things past, drawn from the famous song that shares this title.
