In the ever-changing modern world, there are still holdouts of the past that have yet to give way to the relentless march of time. Decades old buildings and confederate flags still stand in the streets, while right next to them stand shining steel high-rises and young couples walking their children through the farmers market. The institutions of old must give way to the new as society advances, just as flags must come down so others may be raised. This contrast is apparent throughout Columbia, and this photo essay examines that contrast.
