In Toronto, the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwaras Council (OSGC) organized an annual parade along Lakeshore Blvd. This is the third largest parade in Canada and attracts thousands of participants and spectators each year.
It was the 31st annual Khalsa Day celebration and parade – which celebrates the Sikh New Year, more than 85,000 people took part to downtown Toronto this Sunday, April 24,2016.
The parade began at Exhibition Place and ended at Nathan Phillips Square.
Khalsa Day, also known as Vaisakhi, celebrates the Sikh new year and the founding of the Khalsa order of Sikhism. It is considered one of the largest parades in Canada.
No one went hungry. Hundreds of people lining the route offered free food and drink to all passersby, known as Langar, or free kitchen.
The parade included traditional music and drumming. A sea of bright turbans and clothing were seen.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory also attended the event.
