Agapanthus just beginning to bloom . . . a month late
In previous years this agapanthus has bloomed a full month earlier than it is blooming this year. I suspect that is because of the "double whammy" the plants suffered: The winter of 2010 was one of the coldest on record and many otherwise hardy plants were severely damaged if not outright killed (this one died way back). That winter led directly into the summer of 2011 -- the hottest, driest summer on record with extreme drought and months of temperatures from 100 F. to 110F. (37+ to 43+C.)
This poor plant is a shadow of its earlier, robust self but it certainly is making a brave comeback.
