The Stuðlagil Canyon in the Jökuldalur valley in Norosten Island is one of the country's newer attractions. It was under water for a long time until the Kárahnjúkavirkjun hydropower plant was built and the water level in the Jökulsá á Dal glacier river was significantly reduced.

There are two options for the tour: from the west side (here you can drive almost to the viewpoint by car, but then it is not possible to descend to the bottom of the canyon) or from the east side (here you have to drive the car about five Leave kilometers away from the canyon and take a longer hike (there is a descent to the bottom of the canyon). Since I had two hours drive to the canyon, I had not dared to hope to enjoy this place alone. But when I arrived, the parking lot was still empty. All the way to the canyon and in the canyon itself, I didn't meet a human soul (only on the west side were a few people up at the edge of the canyon). Only on the way back to the parking lot did I meet the first hikers, the parking lot itself was pretty full by now...
