Dergide “Limantepe kazılarında açığa çıkarılan liman dünyada bugüne kadar araştırılan en erken örneklerden biri” denildi.

Urla’nın İskele Mahallesi’ndeki Limantepe 1992 yılından beri kazılıyor. Ankara Üniversitesi Sualtı Arkeolojik Araştırma Merkezi tarafından yürütülen kazıların başkanı Ankara Üniversitesi Dil Tarih ve Coğrafya Fakültesi Protohistorya ve Önasya Arkeolojisi Ana Bilim Dalı Başkanı Prof.Dr. Hayat Erkanal.

The Bronze Age site of Liman Tepe is situated on a peninsula on the south coast of the Bay of İzmir, in the neighbourhood of Urla (classical Clazomenae). In antiquity it was flanked by two deep bays, since filled by erosion. Neolithic and Chalcolithic pottery has been found in parts of the site and massive fortification walls surrounded the Early Bronze Age settlements. "Corridor houses" of Aegean type were found in the succeeding EB III/MB level. A Middle Bronze phase contained apsidal houses and was succeeded by considerable Late Bronze Age occupation, although it was disturbed in many areas. The site has strong ties to the Aegean. This site was excavated in the late 1970s by Güven Bakır and Hayat Erkanal resumed work here in 1992 as part of the İzmir Regional Research Project.
