Cumberland Plateau Salamander

Found in a wet sandstone cliff line along a thin, deep, and moist gorge in Eastern Kentucky. In this unique location, Cumberland Plateau salamanders are the most common salamander species; we have yet to find a single slimy salamander in this portion of the gorge. Note the flat head and the scarcity of spotting on the tail; these traits differ from the characteristics of the very similar slimy salamander.
