Queen Snake

A queen snake taking refuge in a sidewalk crack. This deep crack in the sidewalk, which is located on a bridge over a rocky stream running through a suburban neighborhood of Lexington, KY, acts as a hibernaculum for queen and water snakes. I have observed 2 different queen snakes and 6 different water snakes using this crack in the spring of 2016; amazing how snakes can adapt to an urban setting!
