Inside the Diner
Caption: Ohio House Restaurant owner Cathy Roquemore, of Chicago, hasn't seen much change and doesn't expect that there will be much in the future. She says that the restaurant, "hasn't changed in 25 years and isn't going to." It's because of this reliability that customer Milton Haynes, of Chicago, has been a customer "forever," according to Roquemore. "It feels like home," says Haynes.
It's pretty exciting because I actually just won first place in a photo competition with this shot. It was a competition hosted by the Chicago Tribune at the ICPA (Illinois College Press Association) conference.
The way the contest worked was that the photo editor of the Chicago Tribune Magazine, Mike Zajakowski, gave us photographers a one word subject/assignment that we had to go out and capture/cover. After he gave us the assignment, we had 4 hours to make a photograph before we had to meet back at the Tribune Towers.
The subject for this competition was "Change." I just happened to stumble upon this time capsule of a diner that fit very nicely with the idea of change (or lack thereof).
