World War I Flour Sacks
During World War One, Herbert Hoover created the Committee for Relief in Belgium (CRB) to supply food and other necessary supplies to occupied Belgium. Flour was one of the most exported items. Due to worries that the flour sacks would be used by enemy troops for munitions or refilled with inferior flour, the flour sacks were tracked and given to schools, seamstress, and artists. These sacks were then sold or given as gifts.
