USAF Jet forced down in Albania 1957.
This iconic USAF Lockheed T33 - Shooting Star, known as the Thunderbird, was forced down, by 2 MiG 15's, in Albania at the height of the Cold War, 1957. It currently resides in the beautiful hilltop grounds of Gjirokasta Castle, Museum, where it remained remarkably intact for decades. Major Howard J Curran, the pilot, was a highly decorated WW2 veteran, who also served in Korea. He was returned unharmed by the Albanian authorities, after two weeks. No armed forces personnel or members of the public were harmed during this episode.
