Collector's Notes:

Three cold-war maps on a single page from a Sunday supplement in 1961, detailing "The Growth of Russian Imperialism." On the maps left and center, Russia after World War I is shown in red, "Acquisitions" during World War II in orange, and areas "Communist Controlled Today" (1961), including China and its gains, are in pink. Each territory is numbered and dated. The inset map at the lower right shows Soviet ICBM and IRBM bases, along with "Major Soviet Goals," including South America and Africa.

The text describes the history of Soviet attacks on "imperialism" - at the very time that Western empires are being dramatically diminished - all the while expanding the communist "empire." It concludes that "for the Kremlin to shout 'imperialism!' is bitter irony [and] blatant hypocrisy."
