St. Anthony Regional Stormwater Treatment and Research Facility
This new underground treatment system will remove pollution from stormwater runoff for a nearly 600-acre urban area near the border of St. Anthony Village and Minneapolis. A series of chambers, screens and filters will trap a variety of pollutants, including phosphorus, particulate matter, trash and debris. Researchers will also be able to use the site to try out new and emerging treatment methods and more easily monitor water quality in the area. When completed in 2016, the system will remove an estimated 39 tons (63 percent) of sediment and 176 pounds (47 percent) of phosphorus each year from stormwater runoff that discharges directly into the Mississippi River.
