Gyrfalcon ( Falco rusticolus)

Some gravel road near Rannie Road, Pitt Meadows

Me and my dad were birding in the back roads of Pitt Meadows when we saw something on a power pole. We first thought it was eagle, since it was huge, but as we got closer I recognized some falcon-like features - black cheek patch, speckled belly, small beak - it was a falcon, a GYRFALCON! It hasn't been reported for a while and it was a lifer for me! It was worth it, even afterwards I was soaked!
