Snow and mist

It’s March, snow has fallen and a damp fog shrouds the station at Banbury. A spare loco stands in the bay, little used these days but never abandoned because it's convenient for emergencies and so on. The red light is the signal for the northbound main line to Birmingham. Many years ago when the connection to the Banbury Branch for the GCR's London Extension was in place, this bay was used for the "Banbury Motor", the local service with Woodford & Hinton (later Woodford Halse) and the two small halts along the way. It's a relic of times when Banbury was a very busy junction station.

Best seen large.

Techy stuff: Loco is 25 154 in BR blue livery. March 1981. Ambient light, approximately 30-sec exposure with tripod-mounted OM-2 on Kodachrome. Scanned and green hue from the fluorescent lights reduced slightly.
