Still Life Pointillism

The Trevor Carpenter Photo Challenge 2021, Week 48: Pointillism

I found a lot of different kinds of looks of images created with a pointillism effect. I wanted to get the idea of points of color and felt that using Photoshop's pixellated/pointillism filter didn't produce what I preferred. It was difficult to make the points of color stand out yet have the subject not be lost in a blur of tiny spots! I started out with PS filter gallery mosaic tiles, dry brush, and film grain, then added a posterize layer, NIK detail extractor, and then lots of other brush work and filters—including the pointillism filter, on which I reduced the opacity! When playing with photo effects, it's always difficult to know when enough is enough, but I decided to stop here and added a narrow white border. Another fun challenge from this group!
