Getting closer to individual snowflakes

    Newer Older

I've made a number of changes to the equipment. I'm now using a warm water bubbler to provide moist air instead of the wet felt zone. I've also put a variable power supply on the 2000 Volt electrode. This combination is giving thicker ice needles and less compression of the tempurature gradient. These needles were grown in the -5C zone then moved down the chamber in an attempt to grow snowflakes on the end of the needles. If you look closely you will see a snow storm around the crystals.

It's proving very challanging as I don't have enough cooling capacity and all my equipment isn't as accurate as it needs to be.
