World Middleweight Boxing Champion Freddie Steele [left] with Bing Crosby, 1936
After retiring from boxing, Freddie Steele appeared in some 25 Hollywood films from 1942 to 1948, mostly in roles that were uncredited. He certainly grabbed my attention in the 1946 motion picture Black Angel -- starring Dan Duryea, June Vincent, Peter Lorre, Broderick Crawford and Constance Dowling -- where he looks great in a tux playing "Lucky", the manager of a nightclub. He's just the way I like 'em: mature, handsome, muscular, and not too bright. As Freddie Steele's part is a minor role, I've only been able to find one screen capture of his performance in the movie, but it gives me an excuse to include several other images from the film, which is a "noir" I really enjoy.
