Designer Dunny

For anyone not familiar with the term as used in Australia, a dunny is a privy, toilet, lavatory, rest room, bathroom, loo, comfort station, poet's corner, throne-room ..... Do I need to go on? Dunny originally referred to an outside earth closet toilet.

This is defintitely not typical of your Aussie Dunny, this one stands proudly in (or should that be on?) Isaac Moore Park at Kenilworth.

As the viewer has no doubt worked out by now, the edifice represents an 'unfinished basket reflecting an unfinished history'.

The work called Canistrum (Latin for wicker basket) is by Maleny-based architectural illustrator and animator Michael Lennie. It was selected from almost 200 entries in a competition.

Other towns and cities might have murals, but Kenilworth has its designer dunny.
