River Sark Viaduct

Devon and Cornwall Railways 'Grid' 56312 crosses the River Sark viaduct on the Anglo-Scottish border (The 'England' sign board is visible to the left of the viaduct parapet) working the 5Z56 Kilmarnock (Wabtec) to Plymouth Laira. The cloud bank rapidly approaching from the Solway is evident in this image and two minutes later the viaduct was no longer sunlit. That was a close call, particularly as the service was already running late! The 'Grid' was unforunately deemed a failure at Eden Valley up loop south of Penrith and the ensemble was eventually rescued and taken on its way over 3 hours late with DRS 37612 hauling the dead 'Grid' and four coaches.
