Chasing the Dragon
I have enjoyed four group trips to China out of a total of 13 visits for steam photography and made some very good friends along the way. The downside of travelling as part of a large tour group of course is unwittingly getting into another photographer's field of view just at the crucial moment, and we have all done it. In this instance I chose a composition to include the water crane and two locos departing the Pingzhuang servicing point, one with a loaded train. Then my subject matter was slightly amended! Having said that, I do think the photographer adds to the scene here and is one of the very few images that I have of a photographer going about his business 'chasing the dragon' in China, which after all was very much part of the steam railway scene at this time. Deflectored SY 1083 moves off shed as SY 1052 gets underway from the yard shortly after morning shift change on 19th November 2005. The photographer for the record? I recall that it was Adrian Bagnall.
