Gardening Demo and Nutrition Education Class
In celebration of National Gardening Month and National Public Health Week, the Lemon Grove HEAL Zone partnered with the UCSD Center for Community Health, Retail Program and Healthy Markets Action Team to host a gardening and nutrition education event. We held the gardening demo at the Farmers Market, where the owner, Don was so gracious to not only provide us with space, but sent out smoothie samples to the class. This event was open to all ages and went over many important gardening tips including soil type and when to water your garden. Each participant walked away with a goodie bag, which included a cookbook of healthy recipes. And some were even lucky enough to win raffle prizes, including sweet potato vines and a variety of potted plants.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this event a success, including the attendees and Lemon Grove Cub Scout Pack 108!

Special thanks to Permaculture teacher, Lemon Grove resident and founder of the Organic Edible Garden Club, Marianne West who taught the class AND donated plants to raffle off.

And thank you to David Martin from UCSD who contributed most of the great photographs in this album.
