This second album for our birding trip to Tanzania covers North East Tanzania.
We had spent the first part of the trip in the coastal area, starting around Dar Es Salaam, followed by birding on Zanzibar and Pemba. We then flew to Tanga and met up with Geitan and Anthony to start our birding safari with Tanzania Birding.
This second album therefore covers the first part of this safari. Starting from Tanga, we spent 3 nights at the Amani Forest Reserve in the East Usambaras, followed by 3 nights near Lushoto in the West Usambaras. This produced some great forest birding. We then moved to Same for two nights in the renowned Elephant Hotel in order to spend a full day in Mkomazi National Park, which produced a fantastic variety of birds. We then spent a day birding our way to Arusha through the Mwangu Masai Steppe area, again getting some really good birds. We were based in Arusha for three nights, with excursions to the Lark Plains at Engikaret and to Ngero Sere on the intervening two days. We then set off for Gibbs Farm, which was the starting point for our birding on the “Northern Circuit”.
Parts 3 and 4 will be covered in subsequent albums.
