Estonian Evangelical Martin Luther Church

    Newer Older

My buddy diapaulic found this little abandoned church set off in the trees at the end of a dirt road (appropriately named Estonian Church Road) off of County Road J in the Lincoln County countryside east of Bloomville, Wisconsin. Built in 1907, it was the first Estonian church in North America. You can read more about the church's history here.

One of the best new (old) finds that I have seen in awhile!! This place has magic to it and shot very well in its mysterious setting. If or when I go to Wisconsin, I would very much like to seek this out.

What looks like an overcast sky produced a lovely even exposure, and I like the fallen tree branch for the framing.

Looks like it would be a great place to revisit, especially in the fall. Very nicely captured Jim.

I am presently planning a May trip through the Wis. area photographing abandonment. I think this will be one of the highlights! Would love to see an old photo of it in its day.

Very good, I suppose I should just get out and go walking to find some of these treasures, but alas, I usually see them from the highway, and so many times, I can't stop to take the picture. As someone once told me...........just get out and go looking! Take the time and the effort, and it will pay off.........yours did!
