296 Cool Silver

This lighter color briefly replaced 131 Silver (standard Pearl Light Gray). Cool Silver was used only in 2006.

I'm actually not certain which parts are this color. If it looks noticeably lighter than Pearl Light Gray, odds are it's this. But don't take my photo as absolute fact for this one :)

Okay, just checked the parts I have. The shin guard does look slightly lighter than 131 Silver. Axxon's blade is too, but you wouldn't notice unless you look really closely.

I think the two feet in the photo and the sword thingy are all light enough to be Cool Silver. They're all from these 2006 Matoran: www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString...

It's a good thing I collected Bionicle back then :)

This is a pretty "cool" color.

      Ok I'll just leave now.

      ^I think you'd like this color :)

Ryan H. Oh yeah. That color is so cool, I'm surprised it's not wearing a fedora or Ray-Bans™ or something.

Multicombination color part 4298555: Wing W. Holes Ø 4,84 296/191 should also contain color 296.

^That would be rubbery, right? Could be interesting... :)

Ryan H. Not rubbery, but soft plastic (polypropylene, I think). Sort of the same material as some BIONICLE weapons.

Is it possible this color appeared in some 2005 sets (maybe later runs...)? I found part 45276 from the Viking Fortress that looks suspiciously light-colored.

I would love to have more certainty on parts made in this color. Do we know non-rubbery parts that were made in this color only?

Set 7019 was made 2005-2006 according to the LEGO collectors guide.

It would not surprise me if there were Cool Silver parts in 2005 sets. There were definitely some Warm Gold parts in later production runs of brickset.com/sets/8758-1/Tower-of-Toa from 2005.

WRme2 I found a 2L ribbed hose that looks very light... I suspect it came from set 8922 (2007). I also wonder about some of the silver Exo-Force robot legs.

      8758 was made 2005-2007.

This part is a great example of the difference between Cool Silver and 131 Silver:

Nice comparison photo. What is the part number for that one?

    16. Brick Colorstream 28 months ago | reply

The lighter one came from set 8721-1: Velika. But... I just noticed that BrickSet says they're both 131 Silver. I've never seen this much variation within the same material, so I'm guessing that either BrickSet (and Lego?) mislabeled the part color, or it's from a different production run.

Ryan H. Different production run, I think. What a shame that the old backdoor into the LEGO Customer Service parts database doesn't work anymore; it probably would be easier to find part numbers for Cool Silver parts that way than by those sorts of inventories.

I never found any, I must have explored the wrong range. I was trying to figure out what was what for the Clikits colors at the time.

I only found part the multicolored element 4298555, part 57004
      "Wing W. Holes Ø 4,84 296/191" which uses color 296.

WRme2 I was mostly exploring the 2001–2003 range looking for colors I hadn't heard of and/or Bionicle recolors that never ended up in sets. Found some interesting stuff but only made it partway into 2004 before they changed the structure of the Customer Service site to one where the old URLs to view individual part entries were no longer used.

I'm looking through my color collection again and I think I am still confused about 131 silver and 296 cool silver. There is so much color variation between the parts and so little reliable information...
