Wapato at Summer's End

Wapato, Sagittaria latifolia, also know as Arrowhead Plant (because of the shape of the leaves) loves marshy areas. It starts to leaf out when the marsh area starts to dry out, blooms in July, and is now turning to fall colors. These plants were an important food source (the rhizomes/roots) for the Native Americans who lived in the area.
