(LA5 Jan. 9) –CHINESE REFUGEES RETURN—Returning refugees wander dazed to Changteh seeking old homes but find only tumbled stone and broken tile. That is not a bandage on the woman’s head in the foreground but a headdress. The Chinese recently recaptured Changteh and 10 other villages nearby and the encirclement of 2000 Japanese, more than 500 of whom were killed, the Chinese High Command announced.
