Children of the Independence Movement

Fearless children proudly waving the flags of their parents, grandparents, and forefathers. Regardless of politics, their faces, the colors of the flags, and the bright sunny day seemed like a perfect chance to document what could be a historic movement.

Supporters of Catalan independence from Spain took their message to the streets on September 11, the region's national day. Around half a million people volunteered to join a giant V in Barcelona, symbolizing "vote".

The Diada marks what many in Catalonia see as the day they lost their autonomy: September 11, 1714, when Barcelona fell to Spanish and French forces in the War of the Spanish Succession.
