African Fish Eagle
The African Fish Eagle is a large eagle found throughout southern Africa, near lakes and rivers as well as coastal waterways. It is the national bird of Zimbabwe and Zambia, as well as South Sudan. It has white tail feathers and is related to the American Bald Eagle. The females are larger than the males, and can weigh 7-8 pounds and have a wingspan of 8 feet. They are monogamous and mate for life. The female lays three eggs, but usually the first chick to hatch will kill the others, so that only one survives. It remains in the nest for about 8 weeks.
The fish eagle has a very distinctive call, which has been designated "the sound of Africa." To hear it, check out this link.
