85 Kemp Town Continentale 5

    The former Continentale in Kemp Town, Brighton, whilst still open. Used as both a cinema and repertory theatre after conversion form the original chapel, it closed c 1985 and has since been gutted and converted into 5 town houses.

      wow! nostalgic pic - in my school days we became experts at sneaking into most cinemas for free via the fire exits but i can't recall making it into this one - just as well perhaps because i recall it being used as a 'blue movie' cinema...or was that just a schoolboy urban myth?

      Not a myth no! The Continentale often screened the type of films that did not appear at the Odeon or ABC - horror or skin flicks (often both "Dracula's Virgin Lovers" or somesuch title!!). I only ever went there once (circa 1974) and remember it as rather good inside - but I was VERY young LOL!
