95 Dudley Plaza and Hippodrome 11

    Newer Older

The 1936 Plaza Cinema (ex Scala) next door to the Hippodrome Theatre in Dudley. The Plaza was opposite the Odeon Cinema and in 1975 when the Odeon closed the Plaza took the Odeon name, having been twinned in 1973. After closure in 1990 the Odeon name was stripped off, revealing the traces of the Plaza lettering once more. After several uses (laserdrome / nightclub etc) it was demolished in 1997.

I worked here from 1975 as a projectionist. The projection 'suite' windows are situated just beneath the 'Plaza' lettering. I use to hang out the window to check out any fit birds in the que!! The views from the roof overlooking the zoo and freightliner depot were quite something!
