Cannon Cinema in Hastings - was opened as the Gaiety Theatre on the 1st August 1882 and was designed by C J Phipps. It seated approximately 1,400 in 8 boxes, orchestra stalls, pit stalls, pit, dress circle, upper circle, amphitheatre and gallery. In 1932 the interior was gutted and rebuilt as a stalls & single balcony cinema seating around 1,100.
It became the Classic in 1967 and was tripled by Cannon in 1985.
Now the four screen Odeon Hastings with seating ranging from 128 to 174 in the screens. It is a cinema that has been owned by many circuits - other names have been ABC, and MGM.
