Airport Weeze or Niederrhein Airport (IATA: NRN, ICAO: EDLV) is an airport situated in the small municipality of Weeze in the Niederrhein (Lower Rhineland) of western Germany. It is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Nijmegen, Netherlands and 50 km (31 mi) northwest of Düsseldorf. It stands on the site of the former military airbase RAF Laarbruch, and began operations as a civil airport in 2003.

Weeze Airport is used only by low-cost carriers, mainly Ryanair. Its IATA-Code is “NRN” because of its former name Flughafen Niederrhein.

      Groter dan ik dacht.

Trouwens, even een nieuwtje misschien voor mrs. Tokek:

It really does look like a nice little friendly airport. My opinions have been formed by big horrible ones %-) Super shot Herald :-)

Another great shot of this cosy little airport, Herald! Nice composition, beautiful colours!

Some of those little airports like Weeze are quite excellent and therefore I like them a lot. The airport in Bandar Seri Begawan also seems to be a smaller airport and I admit, that as I didn't know it, I had to "google" to gen up on it. :-)

On the other hand there are those huge airports, which are often also airline hubs and which can also be quite interesting and excellent. But there are also some complete misplannings amongst them. Did you ever arrive in Munich by plane? Forget about it, Herald! But if you should have to, try to avoid terminal 1! Terminal 2 is ok, but terminal 1 is really a disaster the way I see it! :-)

Have a great evening, my friend! :-))

PS: A save way to arrive in Munich's terminal 2 and therefore avoid terminal 1 is booking Lufthansa or any Lufthansa partner! ;-)

So Laarbruch is no more then. I expect there'll be a lot of disused RAF air bases and army camps in Germany now since my time there. It's good that the Cold War's over and therefore no need for a big military presence now, but it's also a wee bit sad when you hear that places from your past no longer exist in their old form.

      Nice shot of it mate.

      Thank you everyone... :-)

@Bhakti: bedankt voor de tip, ik heb het doorgegeven... ;-)

@Peter: I've never been to Munich by plane but I'll keep it in mind. I don't mind big airports as long as it's well organized and not too crowded. A place to smoke is welcome too btw... ;-)

@Geoff: I can relate to that. The barracks where I spend my militair career are closing or gone already. The last one will be around for a while but all the old barracks are replaced by modern buildings and totally unrecognizable...
