Ice Fishing Tipup

On the frozen Androscoggin River between Brunswick and Topsham Maine are several "tipups" used by people fishing through the ice. A hole is made in the ice--large enough for a fish-- using an ice chisel or a motor-driven auger. This rig has a baited line suspended into the water and the flag is set down. When a fish takes the bait the flag pops up so the fisherman can then respond. This allows one person to fish a number of holes at one time and also he can sit in a sheltered ice house and observe in comfort. These are probably set for pike.
