Mt. Rainier from Mazama Ridge

    Newer Older

The best place in the park to hike and take alpine wildflowers (in my opinion) is Mazama Ridge running from north of Reflection Lakes, all the way up to the Paradise Glacier trail. You can find many other places that require longer hikes (Indian Henry's; Summerland; etc.), but for a short sweet hike, this is one of my favorites with a camera.

20 August 2010. An early morning hike up the Mazama Ridge and Paradise Glacier trails. The Canon G10 for stationary subjects (flowers and landscapes) and the Canon XSi with the 70-300 mm IS USM lens for moving subjects (wildlife like marmots, pikas, and grouse). Nice hike and beautiful morning.

This beautiful shot looks like it's a painting! Especially the way the foreground trees are dark.

Sherry - - I'm glad you like this landscape foreground framing. I actually go to great lengths at times to "find" landscape views like this so I'm rewarded when others enjoy the effect. OMT

I'm so glad you take your solemn duty to find shots like this so seriously.....it's a tough job and we do so appreciate it!

      :-)

Chuck - - I didn't think you would buy my "hard work" comment on finding places to photograph. So as you say...somebody needs to get up in the mountains and take photos to preserve the memories. I just as well be one of them....and I am. OMT

Thank you AK H - I'm hoping that this trail will be snow free in another three or four weeks, and I can once again in enjoy the pika, the wildflowers, and the outstanding views. OMT
