Steam powered bone saw

In this tool, the power of the steam engine is used linearly, i.e. without converting it to rotation. The device is not much like an engine - more like an hydraulic cylinder.

Are there other tools out there that use the linear movement of the steam piston directly? (Maybe a Fahrkunst? No - the Fahrkunst needs a flywheel to keep the motion even and predictable.)

Anyone able to tell me if the twisted rod could be a "Franklin Oscillating Cam"?
