I had just hiked about 3/4 of the way out on Barnegat Jetty, when my friend David Stimac whistled to get my attention over to the south side of the rocks. In among the crashing waves was a drake White-winged Scoter (Melanitta deglandi), the first I've ever seen. This guy went about his business, fighting the waves crashing on the jetty and diving under to grab mouthfuls of mussels. Although he was backlit, I was able to get some nice images by playing the angles and taking a more high-key approach (more apparent in other images of this guy that y'all will see).
