Brains! Purse

    Newer Older

Upcycled from a thrifted brown purse--paint, collage, sharpies, modpodge, krylon. The image is of neuroanatomist Elizabeth Caroline Crosby (1888-1983), first woman to achieve full professor status at the University of Michigan's medical school. It's from the Flickr Commons uploads posted by the Smithsonian Institution (see below for original).

    SOLD, 5/09.

I've read about her before; great way to memorialize her and "brains" in general. Makes a great purse!

Ohhh, fabulous! I work for the Smithsonian and I'm proud that our "open content" on the Flickr Commons lets you do this ;)

Thanks, mp_eds and treasurefield! It's been fun making and selling purses based on Flickr Commons images. And there's more to come... ;)

I remember Dr. Crosby. I used to see her now and then, walking on the University of Michigan campus here in Ann Arbor.

This is quite a wondrous creation. (I love the fact that Dr. Crosby's photo from the Smithsonian collection is already in the "Eye for Science" group. Will anyone else ever notice?)
