Cholla Cactus Garden

At the west end of Joshua Tree National Park is the Cholla Cactus Garden. Roughly translated, the word Cholla means "Teddy-Bear" referring to the soft silvery bristles that cover the cactus. A more appropriate name might be "Jumping Cholla", as each one of the fuzzy spikes has a microscopic barb that will attach to anything that rubs against it. This is how the cactus reproduces and spreads around
