AB Weekender bag #2

    Newer Older

My sister's b-day present. I want to keep this for myself! :o)

This took me about 20hrs to complete. I'm so glad to be done with it!

Note to self: don't ever sew 2 of these bags back to back!

20 hours? That's amazing, I don't even want to add up the hours I spent on mine. It turned out beautiful!

      thank you!

I thought 20hrs was a lot due to all the seam ripping and re-doing, lol. Plus I had a bit more trouble using the quilting weight cotton vs. the home dec. fabric for my first bag.

Beautiful - great job! Is it a difficult pattern to follow?

    6. jw917 73 months ago | reply

      thanks!

Mymsie, difficult to follow? Not at all. Directions are pretty detailed and easy to understand. But it can be difficult to sew together b/c of all the layers/thickness. It is very labor intensive and time consuming though (and cost of supplies is not cheap) so you need lots of patience and desire to see the bag thru completion. Not for the faint at heart, lol.

I love your color choices. The end result has a lot of "wow" factor to it. Your sister is going to LOVE it!!
I want to start on this bag soon , and it's inspiring to see yours. I'm very curious, did you use timtex or a different stabilizer? It somehow looks sturdier (firmer) than some of the other weekenders I've seen.

thank you dressmaker in training. :o) I ended up using peltex b/c it's easier to find. I believe they're going to stop making timtex soon. Also, I stuffed the bag w/ batting before taking the picture so that's prob. why it looks firmer. ;oP Hope that helps!

This looks great. I agree, the only one I made was for someone else and I need a while to psyche myself up to do another for myself!!!

Just gorgeous. It's still on my wish list, but I have to be really in the mood to take it on. Like you said, it's kind of an investment project, and I have a tendency to leave things when they are about 80% finished. I'm sure your sister will love it.

@jw917 → Thanks for the insider tips. I just love this bag but I'd heard that it's a lot of work. Looks like it's worth it though - yours is lovely!

Amazing bag!! I too have this pattern and the fabric to make it and have been holding off because I've read how time consuming and tough it is to make! Your results are inspiring though - I'm going to get started soon! I also love your pics of all of the steps - very helpful!
