New Jersey Dental School Researcher Receives $3.4 Million Grant
Cibele Nasri-Heir, DDS, a dentist from NJDS, demonstrates the proper way
to brush to Andrea Polo, a student from St. Michael school in Newark.
Polo is enrolled in a research study being conducted by NJDS professor
Daniel H. Fine, DMD. Study participants receive free dental exams,
cleanings and toothbrushes, and they are offered free dental care for
the duration of the study. Funded by the National Institutes of Dental
and Craniofacial Research, the study is looking at the causes and
possible prevention of a periodontal disease that is more common in
African-American and Hispanic children than Caucasians, particularly
those in underserved areas.
