Each day Kosseye collects water from a neighbor's well

In rural areas of Niger, a majority of people have no access to potable water. Each day, this woman from the village of Kosseye Satom, located 15 kilometers away from Niamey, the capital, comes to get water from a well owned by a neighbor, who makes it available to the villagers. The village is near the Niger River, but its residents prefer water supplied by the well, rather than the polluted river. Photo: © Stephan Gladieu / World Bank
