Mu Bhing grilled pork - Chat Thai, Haymarket AUD2.50 each

We start with the pork skewers and satay chicken. While the pork skewers had a wonderful marinade of lemongrass, the satay chicken was rather tame with most turmeric giving it a jaundiced yellow. Just as well it was served with a chunky peanut satay sauce with creamy coconut milk, but even that was lacking in spice.

 

The pork skewers were also served with a nahm jim jeaw, a mildly spicy relish of ground rice, roasted chillies, palm sugar, tamarind essence and a hint of tomatoes. I loved the slightly bitter tartness from the tamarind juice and the nuttiness of the roasted chillies!
