Choc-Mint, Lemon Poppyseed - The Cupcake Bakery, Melbourne Central AUD3.5 each
Tucked away in a corridor linking Melbourne Central and the Office Tower, I discovered The Cupcake Bakery, a shop that is in the QVB and on George St in Sydney. Now that it's so close to work, I decided to try it out. When I asked why there were so few flavours, the girl behind the counter told me that was what was left. They had sold 2 batches of cupcakes covering 3 shelves per batch on their first day!
The lemon poppysed cupcake was nice and buttery with the lemony tang you'd expect, but not quite enough poppyseed. I couldn't help but notice the presence of lemon flavouring though.
The choc-mint cupcake was quite a shocker though. The chocolate was mostly flavouring and so was the mint frosting. Perhaps I shouldn't have expected too much, but I was expecting a rich chocolate cake made with real chocolate!
