Soup - 原盅走地鸡汤面 Free Range Chicken Soup special with Shanghainese Noodles - Din Tai Fung AUD15.80

Dainty 小龙包 Xiao Long Bao dumplings with delicate flavours. We probably should have had more!

 

The 原盅走地鸡汤 free-range chicken soup was quite flavoursome, especially when served with a dash of Chinese rice wine. The Shanghainese-style noodles were super-smooth and extra slippery. They were also extremely white, lacking in the nutty flour flavour, and had a faint tinge of chlorine, perhaps because it was bleached flour. Unbleached flour would probably have been tastier.

 

The 虾仁炒饭 fried rice with shrimp and 干煸四季豆 dry-fried French Beans were ok, nothing special.

 

We finished with a 红豆酥 Golden Red Bean Bread with was crunchy fried bread encasing smooth sweetened red-bean mash. Very nice, and not too greasy either. The taro-filling in the 芋泥小龙包 Taro Xiao Long Bao was very smooth, but the wrapper didn't provide enough textural contrast.
