Acar - Singapore Chom Chom

Acar - Singapore Chom Chom AUD4.50

---

Bad choices all around for dinner tonight.

A big sign outside proclaimed new menu! And new menu it was. The handmade noodle dish Ban Mian and Mee Hoon Kueh, the rustic noodle pieces, could be had in a soup, tossed in a sauce, with a Spicy Sichuan Beef or with a chicken curry. The other thing we noticed was that the prices were new too, upwards new.

I have always love the Malaysian tossed Ban Mian, so that's the one we ordered. The result was an overly sweet, probably Singaporean version. ok, so I'm stupid. This place is called Singapore Chom Chom!

They also had acar on the new menu (i think... i never noticed it on the old menu), so we tried that too. It was too sour. Good acar is supposed to sour, sweet and full of ginger and turmeric and sprinkled with freshly roasted crushed peanuts and sesame. Perhaps it shares the same roots as the British Piccalilli, which is the Indian acar.

The Lor Mee wasn't too bad, but I think Wah Kee in Clayton still has the best Lor Mee in town.
