Bak Kut Teh herbs
Bak Kut Teh herbs
---
Julia's dad was curious as to the authenticity of a Chinese herbalist's blend of 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh, literally "meat and bone tea" in Hokkien.
We all concluded that it was too sweet, most likely because of the 党参 Dang Shen, 罗汉果 Luo Han Guo, and 甘草 Gan Cao. Or perhaps, we should have diluted it further and added more salt or soy sauce to balance it. Or, we could just go with a good brand like A1 or Claypot brand pre-packed herbs :)
The Bak Kut Teh blend consisted of:
- 当归 Dang Gui / Angelica Sinensis - female ginseng
- 党参 Dang Shen / Codonopsis pilosula - poor man's ginseng
- 罗汉果 Luo Han Guo / Siraitia grosvenorii / Monk's fruit
- 玉竹 Yu Zhu / Polygonatum odoratum / Jade Bamboo
- 甘草 Gan Cao / Glycyrrhiza uralensis / licorice root
- 熟地 Shu Di (dried beetroot i think...)
